What Volunteering roles are available?
Our volunteering vacancies change regularly. If you are aged 18 or over please look at our current opportunities pages.
How long is the recruitment process?
This is led by the CUH Recruitment Department who advise this could take approximately 6 weeks, to speed up the process we recommend you complete all checks as soon as possible. We are aware, compared to other community volunteer opportunities, there are some extra checks that our volunteers are required to complete. This is due to the vulnerable patient group and clinical environment in which you would be operating.
What skills and experience do I need?
We’re looking for motivated people who are willing to join the team and make a difference for patients. Our volunteer team members have a diverse range of skills and experience but share a common goal – improving our patients’ experience and assisting visitors and carers. We look for good communication skills, reliability and a positive attitude.
Will I be interviewed?
Yes – but it is a short, informal interview so please don’t let this put you off. For details of our volunteers recruitment process, see here.
What kind of commitment will you need from me?
We ask that you commit to a minimum of 2-3 hours once a week for a minimum of 26 weeks.
Is there any training?
We offer a range of opportunities to enable our volunteers to fulfil their roles with confidence and competence.
Who can apply?

The Trust will undertake employment checks on anyone working, paid or unpaid, in order to protect our patients. As a volunteer, the right to work within the UK is still needed and as part of our recruitment process the relevant documents will be checked. You need to give this consideration before applying.
Why do I need a health check?
We undertake occupational health checks to establish that you are fit to undertake the role you are volunteering for and to identify if any modifications are required to assist you to undertake the role.
I have not worked- Who can supply my references?
We will ask for a character reference as well as a personal statement.
How will you contact me?
The majority of our contact will be through email from Trac, DOT and Voluntary Services so please do keep checking your emails. Please ensure you have your own email address and not a shared one.
