LGBT+ Network

The CUH LGBT+ Staff Network is a group for CUH staff members who are part of the LGBT+ community and allies who wish to support us in promoting equality and inclusion for LGBT+ staff and patients.

Who can join?

The CUH LGBT+ Network is for staff who are part of the LGBT+ community and allies, working to promote LGBT+ equality and inclusion at CUH. 'Allies' are people who take an active role in helping CUH become more inclusive for people from particular groups, even if they don't share those characteristics themselves.

Network committee

LGBT+ training

LGBT+ Awareness is provided by the Kite Trust via Leadership and Organisational Development.

LGBT+ Awareness will cover: language, terms, concepts; statistics and common experiences of LGBT+ people when accessing healthcare in addition to guidance on how to help LGBT+ people feel safe and supported when accessing services.

  • Address the language terms and concepts of LGBT+ people when accessing health services, as well as the experiences of LGBT+ service providers in the NHS.
  • Look closely at the recent requirements for monitoring sexual orientation.
  • Explore how we can create a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all LGBT+ people to receive effective and holistic healthcare.

Bookings for the Kite Trust training are made via DOT.

More about the LGBT+ Network

Did you know?

  • Cambridgeshire has one of the biggest LGBT+ populations in the country

  • One in seven LGBT+ people do not seek healthcare treatment for fear of discrimination

CUH is actively working to become more inclusive for both staff and patients who identify as LGBT+. Network members have recently supported the development of the new Transgender Care policy and a Supporting Gender Transitioning at Work policy. Some network members have been paired with members of the Board to be reverse mentors, sharing their experiences of living and working at CUH as part of the LGBT+ community with those in senior leadership positions.
